WHAT: To celebrate World Oceans Day, New England Aquarium will host a festival filled with family-friendly, interactive activities including sustainable seafood demonstrations with Chef Peter McCarthy of EVVO in Cambridge and hands-on art activities with Maris Wicks, a science writer and illustrator. There will be opportunities to meet scientists and discuss their work with fur seals, whales, lobsters, and other marine animals. Visitors can learn about shark and turtle tagging and see live lobsters from the research lab. Local conservation groups, such as Boston Sea Rovers, Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, Paddle Boston, will be on hand, and the US Coast Guard Auxiliary will bring Coastie, an animatronic tug boat that speaks with children in real time about water safety. The Aquarium’s teen volunteers will share their experiences with climate change education work and community service cleanups, and the 2018 Ocean Stewardship Awards will be presented to local educators.
WHEN: Sunday, June 10 from 11 a.m. to 3p.m.
WHERE: New England Aquarium, Harbor Terrace
COST: Free and open to the public. Aquarium admission, Simons IMAX ® Theatre tickets, and Whale Watch tickets are separate. Admission is not required for the free outdoor festival activities.
