UPDATE:
MUSKETAQUID EARTH DAY 2020 – Re-envisioned
Celebrating the Confluence of Art & Nature
30th Anniversary
April 1 – May 20
THEME: Water
As we navigate the waters of living with Covid-19, we’re re-imagining Earth Day. Returning to our most basic belief that being with Nature is healing and wholesome, imaginative and fun, we find that one silver lining to this whole situation is the opportunity to slow down, simplify, sharpen our senses, and find solace especially outside, reconnecting with nature, as so many are now seeking to do.
In lieu of Concord’s traditional Musketaquid Earth Day Parade & Festival, The Umbrella Arts & Environment Program will mark both our 30th Anniversary Earth Month Celebration and the 50th Anniversary of International Earth Day with a number of virtual activities, below, on the theme of Water to be shared over 50 days.
These include a virtual art exhibition to replace our annual gallery show, a series of 30 activities to reconnect us with Nature while social distancing, and a new online watershed installation by artist Liz Helfer.

EVENT BELOW HAS BEEN CANCELLED
Celebrate our first and forever home: the Earth! The Umbrella Arts and Environment Program is hosting the annual Earth Day Celebration, and this year our theme is Water. We will start our celebrations with a River Ceremony at the Old North Bridge. The Earth Day Parade will leave from the Old Manse down through Concord center to the Umbrella Arts Center, where there will be performers, artists, and food in our Festival.
RIVER CEREMONY
10:00am–11:00am
Minute Man National Historic Park, at The Old North Bridge
CC King will lead our River Ceremony, accompanied by vocalist and performing word artist Valerie Stephens and percussionist Grant Smith. We will launch our collection of Earth Floats at the water’s edge.
EARTH DAY PARADE
11:00am–12:00pm
The Old Manse to The Umbrella
To start our parade, the band Snow Crow will raise us to our feet in song and dance. We muster at 11:00 and begin parade down Monument and Main Streets with giant puppets, costumes, banners, community groups, families, and friends alongside performing artists including:
aNova Brazil, an interactive performing arts group that combines Afro, Funk, Hip Hop, Samba and Taiko drumming into a feet-stomping music extravanganza!
Dirty Water Brass Band, a Soul and R&B band that draws its influence from the streets of New Orleans
Bagpipe Major Ben Adelman and Friends, a local Massachusetts group of powerful bagpipers
EARTH DAY FESTIVAL
12:00pm–2:00pm
The Umbrella
Our parade ends at the Umbrella Arts Center on Stow Street. We will have table exhibitors and arts activities inside the Umbrella. Once you step inside you will find yourself immersed in a watershed environment, a special artist installation just for Earth Day. There will also be entertainment, music, and performances from:
Drumlin Farm's Birds of Prey
Diabolis in Musica, a community music group that plays party-time medieval music
Vera Meyer's Glass Harmonica, a water-inspired, historical performance
Mary Puppets: Tubs, Tubes, and Toilets, a family puppet show presented by Rosalita's Puppets
Enjoy food from Concord Market/Trail's End Cafe!
Musketaquid and OARS is pleased to present a family-friendly film festival on Earth Day! The film festival will focus on our water theme. More details to come as we approach the spring.
