The French Library is pleased to welcome award-winning French violinist and author Marina Chiche.
Marina will tell us more about her work on making classical music accessible to the widest audience possible and highlighting exceptional women performers forgotten by history because of their gender.
In her book, Musiciennes de légende, Marina Chiche draws a gallery of portraits of women performers from around the world throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. Each of them has marked their time and the history of their instrument. Some had to break through glass ceilings to gain access to higher education. Others have succeeded, through audacity and perseverance, to be hired as soloists or to join symphonic orchestras that were previously exclusively male. Some were anti-conformists, suffragettes or committed feminists. This infinite diversity of profiles and backgrounds needs to be represented in our collective imagination.
Within the context of classical music, this book is a way to approach contemporary gender and diversity issues.
Join us for a night full of stories and music and be ready to discover your new favorite classical artist!
The interview will be followed by a Q&A with a book signing and a glass of wine.
In person event in English.
