Many of us are aware of the serious challenges facing Native Americans today. But, do we really understand how critical the situation actually is? This is a part of America’s story that is not often told in its entirety and remains hidden from view.
Film presentation of Legacy: MMA fighter Nikki Lowe, Native Hope Fellow, shares her story of perseverance via a ten-minute documentary produced by Native filmmaker Mark Lewis (also in attendance). After the viewing, she will share her mission and, if we’re lucky, her talents on the Native flute. Mark will also be available to discuss the value of telling Native stories via film.
Trisha Burke and Selim Sandoval, from the Native Hope leadership team, will offer insight into the mission of Native Hope, and its plan to use film/media in conjunction with the work of its ambassadors to dismantle barriers for Native voices unheard.
Pizza and popcorn will be served.
