The term “Blue Zones” was first coined by Dan Buettner, a journalist and National Geographic Explorer and Fellow, during an exploratory project he led in 2004. One of the many regions of the world that he set out to explore — ‘Blue Zones’ — where people not only lived longer but also enjoyed a high quality of life in their old age.
In “Move. Dwell. Belong.” — Urbano’s spring movement program — DeAnna Pellecchia and Carmen Rizzo worked with youth over the course of 12 weeks to collaboratively create a 20 minute, site-specific performance piece exploring the lifestyle habits found in all Blue Zones; specifically how dance and movement can foster purpose, stress relief, social networks, long-life, and ultimately, belonging.
This free, community-wide event, will premier this movement piece, while also hosting an artist Q&A with students, teachers, and the Urbano Project’s programming team.
