Ever wonder what goes on at a theater audition? Well, one common requirement is for actors to perform a monologue that displays their ability to act, show humor or emotion, to touch an audience in just a couple minutes. Monologues are 1-2 minute bits lifted from a play, little delightful petit fours of theater, so to speak.
How does an actor prepare their monologue? After choosing and memorizing one, they usually practice in front of a mirror, or record it and then watch themselves to find ways to improve, or enlist a friend and practice in front of them.
AFD's first Monologue Night is a chance to practice in front of a live supportive audience, more like a real audition, but without the pressure of trying to land a part. So come on out... it's free and fun to support local actors, and you can try one yourself...if you are brave enough!
