Speakers:

Yevgenia Albats is a Russian investigative journalist, political scientist, writer and radio host. She has been the political editor, editor-in-chief, and CEO of The New Times, a Moscow-based, Russian language independent political weekly. Albats was an Alfred Friendly Press Fellow assigned to the Chicago Tribune, a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University, and also a senior fellow at Harvard's Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies. She is the author of multiple books. As of 2022, she resides in the US where she works as a chief editor of The New Times magazine.


Olga Onuch is a senior lecturer and associate professor in politics at the University of Manchester. Since 2017 she has been an affiliate of, and previously in 2014 a fellow of the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute. Her recent award-winning book, The Zelensky Effect, explores how ordinary citizens come to develop a sense of civic duty fostering a civic-centered state attachment as opposed to an ethnonational one.


Co-Chairs:

Carol Saivetz is a Senior Advisor in the MIT Security Studies Program. She is the author and contributing co-editor of books and articles on Soviet and now Russian foreign policy issues.


Elizabeth Wood is a Professor of History at MIT. She is the author most recently of Roots of Russia's War in Ukraine as well as articles on Vladimir Putin, the political cult of WWII, right-wing populism in Russia and Turkey, and US-Russian Partnerships in Science. She is Co-Director of the MISTI MIT-Eurasia Program.
