Join artist Adam Davis for an exploration of tintypes and image making as a means of documenting and celebrating communities. Taking inspiration from his project building one of the largest contemporary repositories of tintype portraits of Black Americans and Global Africans in the world, titled Black Magic, this workshop will serve as a pop-up tintype portrait session. The Materials Lab will be turned into a studio and dark room, and everyone will learn the basics of tintype photography by making portraits on an aluminum plate from start to finish. You’ll have the chance to add your own creative flourishes both to an image of a fellow participant and to a tintype made of you.
Photography supplies will be provided. Beginners are warmly welcome.
The hands-on session will take place in the Materials Lab on the Lower Level.
$15 workshop fee. Registration is required and space is limited; registration will open on this form, beginning on Wednesday, November 6, at 10am. $15 workshop fee must be paid to confirm registration. Minimum age of 14; no previous experience required.
