Spice up your week with a unique and educational night out that’s suitable for the whole family. Margaritas Mexican Restaurants host acclaimed Mexican artists who lead demonstrations of their craft within the restaurants. Artists also display an array of items for guests to interact with and explore.
Descendants of the Zapotec civilization, Adelina Pedro Martinez and Federico Negrete Lopez practice the ancient craft of barro negro, which translates to “black clay.” Barro negro is a style of pottery that originated centuries ago in a small village in Oaxaca, Mexico. The sculpted clay pieces are left to dry in the sun before they are decorated with intricate details and burnished with a smooth quartz stone. The finished pieces are then fired in a kiln, which is where they get their distinct black, metallic color.
