Join us for a month of dance this March at the Multicultural Arts Center featuring three incredible dance companies; Urbanity, Abilities, and Monkeyhouse. Dates, tickets, and more information available at www.multiculturalartscenter.org
Urbanity: Urbanity NeXt showcases rising choreographers from the Greater Boston dance community. Artists are chosen to develop their work, with some, under the mentorship of established choreographers. Throughout a 4-month residency, artists work with Urbanity's professional company and creative class dancers to push the boundries of contemporary in the Boston dance scene. This year's selected choreographers are: Styles Alexander, Hollis Bartlett, Dorothy Cherry, Cayley Christoforou, Alexander Davis, Carrie Kerstein, and Nattie Trogdon. Abilities: Audacity is the third annual production by Abilities Dance. Audacity was inspired by the company’s goal to audaciously celebrate diverse bodies in dance. The show consists solely of female choreographed works from Abilities's own Founder & Director Ellice Patterson and Lauren Sava, as well as guest choreographers Louisa Mann and Leslie Taub of NYC, danced by the Abilities Dance. The show also features pieces by youth from Abilities's community partner, Our Space Our Place, an after-school program for blind and low-vision youth in Boston Public Schools (BPS). The show will have audio descriptions created by Kathryn Boland and Amber Pierce. The show will also have CART interpretation. Questions can be emailed to [email protected]. Monkeyhouse: Who are the people who made YOU? re{ACT} re{BUILD} re{COLLECT} uses dance theatre too look at the ways we discover, connect with, and remember the people and relationships that shape our lives. These collaborative creations use metaphors to illustrate how imperfection can transform into physical poetry. A combination of movement and spoken word, partnered with a deft use of costumes and props, create a perfect cocktail of storytelling for anyone who as ever lost a friend or made a new one. re{ACT} re{BUILD} re{COLLECT} is choreographed and performed by Monkeyhouse founders Karen Krolak and Nicole Harris; company choreographers Sarah Feinberg, Sam Mullen, Olivia Scharff and Caleb Howe, and guest artists Kim Holman and Sarah Friswell Cotton.
