Join us to commemorate Juneteenth with a reflective and joyful flag raising and program from 11:00am-12:30pm, to be followed by activities, games, artist vendors and a free community cookout until 3pm! The program will include performances by Shanel Anderson (Soul City Yoga), poet Terry Carter, drummer Cornell Coley, Bwann Gwann (keynote address), Malden High School's A.O Step Team, dancer Roxane Leon, and singer Lydia Harrell, followed by music all afternoon from DJ Tyrone Henry! As this event is outdoors at Lincoln Commons, we ask that you please bring your own chairs or blankets for seating.
Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration of the abolition of slavery in the United States. On Juneteenth we honor the history, legacy, and culture of our African American and Black community members.
This will mark the fourth year that the Juneteenth flag has flown over Malden. All public schools, fire stations, the Senior Community Center, and the Malden Police Department will also fly the Juneteenth flag!
MaldenCORE is grateful for our sponsors, without whom this event would not be taking place. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Malden Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency. The program is also financially supported by the City of Malden and the Mystic Valley Branch of the NAACP.
