Teens, are you looking for a way to express yourself creatively? Are you interested in learning more about community art and local activism? If so, come join us for a two-part zine-making workshop!
Long before TikTok arrived on the scene, zines (DIY magazines) were a way for communities to share ideas and discuss trends, news, and public events. Zines are non-commercial publications and are easier and less expensive to create and reproduce than typical magazines. They can share recipes or lifestyle tips, promote stories from marginalized voices, publicize political events, and much more - essentially, they can be whatever you want them to be!
In the first workshop session (Monday, November 14), expert zine maker Sam from Dorchester Art Project (DAP) will discuss the history and culture of zines and zine-making and will provide some examples from the DAP zine library as inspiration. Participants will be invited to brainstorm ideas for their own zine during the first session and can return for the second session (Wednesday, November 16) to work on their zine projects and learn more about zine-making and collecting in the local community. We hope to see you there!
Supplies will be provided for zine-making.
NOTE: We encourage you to register online for the event, but walk-ins are always welcome!
