Singalong Concert with Annie Patterson & Peter Blood, Authors of "Rise Up Singing" and "Rise Again"
Annie Patterson and Peter Blood are doing a benefit concert at the Friends Meeting at Cambridge (Quakers) Meeting House for Queer Youth Assemble.
Annie & Peter’s songbooks have created a quiet revolution of group singing across North America. This concert offers a rare opportunity to meet the creators of these popular songbooks and experience their gifts of nurturing community and resilience through song.
They are two of the country’s leading folk music activists. Pete Seeger worked closely with them on their two song collections, Rise Up Singing and Rise Again. Seeger said that Rise Up Singing “has made a qualitative difference in singing in America.”
The audience will be invited to join in on some or all of most songs. If people have copies of one or both song books they are encouraged to bring them to the concert. Copies of their songbooks will also be available to buy or borrow during the concert.
The concert is a benefit for Queer Youth Assemble, a nonprofit working to help create a world where “all queer and trans youth are given safety, autonomy, joy, and the ability to reach their fullest potentials.” The Peace & Social Justice Committee of Friends Meeting at Cambridge is sponsoring this concert.
Tickets are available at riseupandsing.org/events and at the door. Masking will be required for the audience at the concert, but the performers will be singing without masks.
