Sundays in Newton, January 15 - February 19, 2017 (6/4 weeks)
Lower Falls Community Center, 545 Grove St, Newton Lower Falls, MA 02462
4:40-5:40pm Lindy Hop/Beginner Swing Level 1 (6 weeks)
This class gets a mix of brand new dancers as well as continuing students. There are several different sessions at this level, each with new content, which can be taken in any order. Students are recommended to stay at this level long enough both to cover many of the important elements of Lindy Hop as well as to feel very comfortable with what’s taught before moving to the next level. The aim is to work on developing a solid foundation of dance skills while building a repertoire of moves for social dancing. This session will include swing outs, one of the most fundamental defining elements of Lindy Hop! Discount after 2 full sessions. No experience required.
5:50–6:50pm Twists & Turns in Lindy Hop (6 weeks)
This session will feature moves that include some element of twists and turns. Included in the mix will be some different “twists” to things you may know, as well as some unexpected and interesting variations. We’ll focus on elements of partner connection to help create the many possibilities available. Previous Lindy Hop experience is required, including knowledge of 8 count basics. (For intermediate and up).
7:00–8:00pm Tranky Doo (4 weeks, January 29–February 19)
Pepsi Bethel in the 1940s. Although Lindy Hoppers have kept it alive for decades, it has made a resurgence on the social dance floor in the last few years. If you’ve been wanting to join in when it’s danced, as well as work on your solo dancing, we’ll be teaching a currently popular version.
