As part of our Never Too Late Group created with older adults in mind, we are hosting local professor Barry Marshall for a screening and discussion of Sweet Smell of Success (1957 | Not Rated | 1h 36m). The British Alexander Mackendrick, known for his Ealing Studio comedies of the late 1940s and early 1950s, here makes one of the classic and definitive takedowns of 1950s “celebrity culture”, while capturing a show business New York City milieu in noirish neon beauty. This film stars Burt Lancaster and Tony Curtis in career defining roles.

Barry Marshall is a Senior Affiliated Faculty member in the Visual and Media Arts Department at Emerson College, teaching classes in Film and Media History as well as Copyright. He has had an extensive career as well as a musician and record producer and has produced and written songs for several films and television shows. He also curates and presents film programs at the Boston Public Library.

Due to the ample seating available in the Rabb Lecture Hall, registration is not required; instead, seating is first come, first served.
