As part of our Never Too Late Group created with older adults in mind, we are hosting local professor Barry Marshall for a screening and discussion of Ace in the Hole (1951 | Not Rated | 1h 51m), a scathing indictment of American media culture. Directed and co-written by Billy Wilder, the film is both a biting social critique and a desperate quest for a “big score” story that will save the protagonist’s career and perhaps his life. The movie stars Kirk Douglas and Jan Sterling.
Barry Marshall is a Senior Affiliated Faculty member in the Visual and Media Arts Department at Emerson College, teaching classes in Film and Media History as well as Copyright. He has had an extensive career as well as a musician and record producer and has produced and written songs for several films and television shows. He also curates and presents film programs at the Boston Public Library.
Due to the ample seating available in the Rabb Lecture Hall, registration is not required; instead, seating is first come, first served.
