Author Charles Manson will share from his new book "The Second Karmapa Karma Pakshi: Tibetan Mahasiddha" about the life and works of this influential figure in the Karmapa lineage.
Karma Pakshi was a Tibetan meditation master who became the Buddhist priest to two Mongol emperors, and is recognized as one of the earliest reincarnated lamas of Tibet. He was influential in the development of the reincarnate lama tradition, a system that led to the lineage of the Dalai Lamas.
The Karma Pakshi guru yoga was one of the inspirations to Trungpa Rinpoche's 'Sadhana of Mahamudra' terma (1968).
Discussion and questions will be welcome after the talk, and book signing, if wanted.
Charles Manson was once a master woodcarver, who then spent several years as a Buddhist monk and eight years as a meditation retreatant. He later studied at Harvard University where he received a master’s in theological studies. He currently works as a librarian for the Tibetan Collections at the Bodleian Library (Oxford University) and at the British Library in London.
