A key figure in the Pop art movement, Roy Lichtenstein (1923–1997) grounded his profoundly inventive paintings around the imitation and reinvention of everyday imagery, starting with comic books and advertisements in the 1960s and expanding to encompass a broader range of subjects. Lichtenstein100, held in commemoration of the artist’s centennial, showcases works in the museum’s permanent collection, including Lichtenstein’s iconic 1962 painting, Forget It! Forget Me!, alongside ephemera, photography, and other source material, shedding light on Lichtenstein’s lasting impact on art history and popular culture.
Lichtenstein100 is curated by Dr. Gannit Ankori, Henry and Lois Foster Director and Chief Curator of the Rose Art Museum and Professor of Fine Arts and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality at Brandeis University.
