Step into the exciting world of electronics prototyping by building your own fun animated LED strip. In this workshop you will put together a simple Arduino-powered LED strip which you will then be able to program and customize with color light animations. The parts, tools, instructions, and starter code will be provided, and we will help you create your own light strip, adding your own customizations to the code and making the lights do what you want.
This workshop is suitable for all levels, though some experience with electronics or programming will give you an advantage. You will need to provide your own computer with a working USB port and capable of running the Arduino software. We recommend downloading and installing the Arduino application prior to the workshop. Arduino can be downloaded for free from https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Software
For the workshop, every participant will get to take home a completed project with the following:
- 0.5 m (30 LED) addressable RGB LED strip
- Adafruit Trinket
- micro USB cable (for power and programming)
- wires to connect LED strip to Arduino
- solder wire
Tools included:
- soldering iron
- wire stripper
- helping third hand
Not included:
- computer capable of running Ardunio software https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Software (please bring your own computer)
- (optional) separate power source to connect USB cable to (such as a USB battery pack or AC adapter). Note that a separate power source is optional, but may be a desirable option for powering your project without your computer.
