The Brookline Cherry Blossom Festival is May 12, 2018 from 12PM-4PM
Bon Odori is a Japanese folk dance traditionally part of Obon which is a festival celebrating our ancestors. These community dances are very simple, easy to learn, and done in a big circle with music. In Japan there are thousands of bon odori dances with different themes. We will share the history and context of Obon Festival as well as demonstrate and teach 3 dances! Everyone is welcome!
We will teach Tankou Bushi (Coal Miners dance), Sakura Ondo (Cherry Blossom dance), and Ei Ja Ni Ka (Isn't it So? created in the US by Japanese Americans.) Please come wearing comfortable clothing. Socks are fine but no shoes are allowed in the dance studio.
These dances will be done as part of the the Brookline Cherry Blossom Festival Saturday May 12, 2018 at Brookline High School from 12-4PM. We will invite everyone to participate! www.brooklinecherryblossom.com
