Introduction
In 2017, let’s crush all of our resolutions in style!
Ladies Lounge is a monthly series curated by Just Us Gals and hosted by GA, where we bring together influential women entrepreneurs focused on a central theme. In January we are highlighting the women that are dominating the fashion/ activewear industry here in Boston.
Why It Matters?
Over the past few years Boston has become a hub for fitness apparel startups that are creating beautiful, functional, and versatile pieces. The women leading these companies have great stories to tell about what it is like to source supplies, work with designers, and create a brand that stands out in a crowded market. Join us to hear from the leading ladies of some of Boston’s top new fitness brands!
About the Speakers
Kelly Brabants
Founder, Booty by Brabants
Kelly Brabants, founder of Boston-based fitness and lifestyle brand Booty by Brabants (BBB), is a trained dancer and certified personal trainer, who, after years dancing in New York City and Los Angeles, returned home to Boston to take what she learned about dance and bring it to the booming fitness industry. In 2014, Brabants began teaching her signature BBB class and has since introduced the revolutionary, full-body strength and cardio workout to some of New England's most prestigious gyms. Brabants' heart-pumping workout and Brazilian roots soak into her fashion line, which she designs herself and is specially crafted in Rio de Janeiro, the style mecca of Brazil. It was in Rio that she first discovered the lightweight, breathable fabric that makes up her signature, one-size-fits-most leggings. Today, Booty by Brabants is a family-run business fueled by passion, authenticity, and Brazilian culture. It's mission is to empower women to feel confident and beautiful from the inside out.
Allison Daroie
Founder and Designer, Paridaez
Allison Daroie is the founder and designer of the Boston-based minimalistic transformative apparel brand, Paridaez. She is the former Director of Corporate Partnerships at fashion eCommerce company Karmaloop.com, a yoga instructor, a fashion merchandising professor, a former lawyer, jewelry designer and dancer... a jane of many trades. While trying to balance work, play, and her active lifestyle, she realized her life would be a lot easier if she had clothing that was comfortable, elegant and could seamlessly transition between environments. Always up for a creative challenge, Daroie decided to draft her own designs. With a vision to move beyond the fitness-to-leisure concept, she sought to create innovative apparel that fully meets the needs of our robust lives from the traveler to the weekday warrior the pieces transform into looks suitable for work, workout or night out.
Jana Ross
Retail Operations Manager, Janji
Jana manages retail operations for Janji, a local running apparel brand that donates 10% of sales to fund clean water foundations globally. Janji has a pop-up store on Newbury Street, where they host weekly community events from run clubs to storytelling nights. Before joining Janji, Jana was the Media & Communications Manager for a food innovation lab and the Community Manager for MoveWith, a local fitness startup. She spends her free time running, coaching, working out with November Project, and blogging at Bananas for Balance.
Amanda Yanchury
Founder, Cause I Run
Amanda Yanchury is a runner and the founder of Boston-based Cause I Run: activewear that gives back. Each piece of running gear is made with earth-friendly fabrics and produced in the USA (here in Massachusetts), and every purchase includes a built-in donation to charity. After a successful crowdfunding campaign, Cause I Run is launching an e-commerce shop in early 2017. With a background in communications and nonprofit work, Amanda is excited about the movement to create social change through commerce.
About Our Partners
JUGS
Just Us Gals is a Boston lifestyle blog by gals for gals. The blog was inspired by the e-mail chain for our book club, where we found we were flooding each other's inboxes with information on new companies, products, sales, and our favorite content from around the web. We took our passion for sharing information and turned it into the current medium of JUGs. Just Us Gals offers insight on style, living, health, and careers for 20-something gals living in Boston. We hope to inspire our readers to lead compassionate, fulfilling lives.
