Très Maresienne (Lisa Brooke, baroque violin; Olav Chris Henriksen, theorbo & baroque guitar; Carol Lewis, viola da gamba) will play instrumental music from 18th-century France, including works by Clérambault, Dornel, Forqueray, Dollé, and Jacquet de la Guerre.
Louis XIV of France, known as the “Sun King”, loved music and dance, and he made sure to surround himself with the finest musicians of his day. By the 18th century, during the king’s final years and afterwards during the reign of Louis XV, there were a great many excellent composers in Paris and at the court of Versailles. Come and hear dazzling sonatas, intriguing character pieces, a fugue, and a lovely sinfonia by Clérambault, Forqueray, Dornel, and Dollé. There will even be a seldom-heard sonata for violin by the great harpsichordist and composer Ėlisabeth Claude Jacquet de la Guerre, who was a favorite of Louis XIV.
Très Maresienne has performed for several years in the Boston area, including appearances on the Cambridge Society for Early Music and Museum Concerts Rhode Island concert series. Violinist Lisa Brooke has been concertmaster and soloist of Symphony by the Sea and Coro Allegro, and she currently plays with Arpeggione Ensemble, Boston Landmarks Orchestra, King’s Chapel, and many others. She is a founding member of Très and is frequently heard as a soloist and with many ensembles in Boston and New York. Carol Lewis and Olav Chris Henriksen are also frequent collaborators with ensembles in the U.S. and abroad, including Capriccio Stravagante, the Boston Camerata and Capella Clausura.
