What exactly does it mean to worldbuild? What might a parallel universe look like? What do you think an alternate version of yourself would be doing right now? Join us on August 12 from 11:30am - 12:30pm as we tackle these questions in the Red Room at the Foundry in Cambridge!

Inspired by The Matrix, this workshop will explore topics around what it means to create an imaginary world. We'll spend the first portion in a roundtable-style discussion and the rest of the session building our own fictional landscapes out of cardboard and other recycled materials. We'll learn about what the end-to-end process of ideating, prototyping & designing our creations can look like. Examples of creations may include: objects as portals, miniature scenes, dioramas, and more. Lastly, we'll dive into themes like key elements for constructing an imaginary setting, how the physical world and our imaginations can collide to create illusions, and what happens when our parallel universe veers into the realm of utopias/dystopias. Get ready for an action-packed hour full of sci fi rabbit- erm, WORMholes! 😉

This workshop is perfect for:

Please plan to join your child and engage in the session! We'll also have a separate "Big Kids" table where parents can migrate to if comfortable once everyone gets settled. Materials will be provided but you're welcome to bring additional materials for your child/to share if you'd like!

Tickets are sliding scale (pay-what-you-can). Space is capped at 15 kids so that everyone has a good time :)

About the facilitator:

Hey there, I'm Amy! I'm an alumni of the Harvard Graduate School of Education's Learning Design, Innovation & Technology program. At HGSE, I worked on a slew of projects focused on making creativity accessible by conceptualizing an interactive sensory-based game, redesigning a toy table for an MIT startup, and developing paintable playspaces for preschoolers. Prior to that, I studied media & education at UC Berkeley, then hopped over to BümoBrain, an online preschool where I managed operations for subscription boxes. For the past 3 years, I've facilitated more than 100+ workshops both in-person & online for over 50 kids ages 6-12! Most recently, I developed curriculum for and taught creative workshops at Cresconova, an online academy for gifted students (think "Make a Monster, Shadow Rats, Game Tactics & Negotiation, etc.). I'm obsessed with designing learning experiences that are fun, accessible & community-building!
