ALL OUT FOR ALLSTON ARTISTS!
Artists at The Sound Museum in Allston were notified last year that they would lose their affordable rehearsal space and that Allston residents would lose this important cultural institution to a San Diego-based life science developer IQHQ that bought out the building in order to build a sprawling life sciences center. Massive attendance and participation at the Impact Advisory Group meeting months ago pushed the developers to verbally promise tenants a new space but just a few weeks ago in December just days before the winter holidays, artists were told that they’d be evicted by the end of January with with NO alternative space provided.
We refuse to let the arts be on the chopping block again and again. Across the city, artists are losing affordable and accessible spaces to practice their craft and communities are losing the heart of what makes our neighborhoods special. Without practice spaces, bands won’t be able to play, record, or may not be able to continue their craft at all.
We demand a replacement rehearsal space before the eviction is set to take place at the end of this month!
Despite rumors of a potential replacement we have heard no concrete details on the future of our livelihoods. Keep arts and culture alive in Allston!
