Props are there to take the personal out of the practice. There are so many props used as tools we use in an asana practice to achieve this: blocks, straps, poles, blankets, sandbags, to name a few. My favorite prop is a chair. It is a sturdy tool that has all of the angles we look to find in our practice.
So what is chair yoga?
Chair yoga is for everyone.
It can be used as a physically demanding practice to access a deeper understanding of the pose. It can be restorative and serve to give us leverage to be held. It can also be used to turn ourselves upside down and change our perspective.
Chair yoga, like all yoga, is multidimensional and multifaceted.
For this workshop, we will explore not only how to practice using the chair as a prop, but also ways you can incorporate it into your home practice and access poses in a new and creative way. We will practice restorative postures, inversions and sun salutations.
