I've adopted Katahdin to be part of Summits in Solidarity’s 2023 Hike Day on June 24th! We are attempting to cover all 48 of NH’s 4,000 foot peaks as well as other notable hikes of varying elevation on Hike Day and appreciate your support. Take the lead on creating a team for one of the other hikes or join the hike up Katahdin with me and my team.
We will be camping in Baxter State Park from Thursday to Sunday in hopes for a day of good weather to summit Katahdin. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, we’ll climb another peak in the park.
As far as I know, hiking Katahdin requires either: camping within Baxter State Park or reserving a parking pass (available for non-Maine residents 2 weeks prior to hike date) and arriving at the park gates before 7 am the morning of the hike.
If you plan on being in Baxter for the weekend let us know - and we can hike or hang together!
Make Your Hike Count!
There is a buy-in donation of $20 per hiker which goes to the #SummitsInSolidarity Campaign, an annual hiking initiative to raise $35K+ by June 30th for critical anti-racism and outdoor access work being led by communities of color.
Visit the SiS website for details on how to “Summit in Solidarity”, maximize your impact, and to see other Summits in Solidarity hikes that are happening in your area. Participants, in particular white hikers, are encouraged to fundraise amongst their family and friends via Instagram, Facebook, GoFundMe, or similar platforms.
The more people that join our hike, the bigger the impact our team will have on Summits in Solidarity's fundraiser for racial justice and equity work. Please note that each hiking group should be a maximum of 10 people for trail etiquette. Once our team is solidified, if interested, I'll place an order for our team's Solidarity bandana flags to wear on our hike. Having the bandanas or signs with us, help showcase the reason for our hike.
Participants that are hiking in the White Mountains, NH on Hike Day are highly encouraged to attend Solidarity Night (and weekend) at the Notch Hostel to make friends, increase your impact, and fully immerse yourselves in this amazing community effort.
Hope to see you on the trails!
