Join me on a brief journey through my trajectory as an art maker and community organizer. We will start in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and follow my transition to Boston to pursue an MFA degree at SMFA @ Tufts. I will show a bit of my hometown and what it means to live in the iconic and gorgeous but violent city of Rio. How I have been adapting to living in Somerville, (and New England weather) for ten years now. Have a peek at what I've been up to in my residency studio at the Umbrella Center for the Arts! I will speak about the idea of making art as an act of resistance and how art and artists can be a powerful change agent in our society when we organize. In my recent work, I dive into John Lewis' legacy, as well as the late beat poet Diane Di Prima and her Revolutionary Letters. We will go on a journey honoring artists, activists, and referential writers who have been teaching us to Speak Truth to Power and how we can amplify and put into practice these messages of equality, inclusion, unity, and peace.
The Home Alone series is brought to you by the Somerville Arts Council
