Mestizados is a new project formed by five Colombian musicians. The group features llanera harpist and composer Nicolas Castaňeda, vocalist Lizje Sarria, violinist Pilar Zorro Leyva, bassist Carlos Pino, and percussionist Isaac Matus Rodríguez. Both Nicolas and Pilar have performed previously in the Journeys in Sound series and were very well received so it is exciting to have them back in a brand new project that is dear to their heart.
Society is facing times of change where humanity does not have a space to breathe and realize its existence on the current contemporary history. the role of music in social and political change is extremely important; Inspired on the New Song movement from South America, "Mestizados" brings through poetic lyrics a voice of hope and healing to the community. It also speaks through music, issues of poverty, injustice, democracy and both human and nature rights.
Mestizados uses as a departure point elements from traditional South American music that fueled their compositions, but also hybrids its sonority with their experience in contemporary music.
