Massachusetts College of Art and Design continues the Spring 2023 Sharp Edges Design Speaker Series with José Manuel dos Santos: LEADING WITH DESIGN. This conversation explores unique perspectives on the topic of designing an ecosystem of products and services that span physical and digital realms.

José Manuel dos Santos is a designer, thought leader and passionate entrepreneur with over 30 years of experience in design and design management. He began his career in Portugal as an industrial designer, and went on to form and sell two European product design companies. He worked as Industrial Design Director in Barcelona and led a large Internet company in Lisbon as Chief Design Officer. In 2011, dos Santos came to the US and joined Fortune 500 company Masco as Design Director, and in 2016 joined Signify (formerly PHILIPS Lighting) as Head of Design Americas.
Signify is one of the most successful modern stories of digital transformation and José leads a practice vital to that continued success. With a PhD focused on design leadership, and heading MassArt’s 2023 Design Leadership Lab at MassArt, José brings both a scholarly and practiced perspective to the topic of leading with design.
