Cape Cod Chorale presents “What a Wonderful World: Songs of Earth, Sea, and Sky”.
A joyful, thoughtful program of music celebrating our environment on Cape Cod and beyond balanced with short introductory comments for each section of the program from four environmental organizations on Cape Cod: Native Land Conservancy, Barnstable Clean Water Coalition, Wild Care Cape Cod, and Association to Preserve Cape Cod.
According to the Artistic Director, Danica A. Buckley:
“This concert program emerged out of my desire to feature a variety of choral music about our environment and to collaborate with Cape Cod environmental organizations. We celebrate nature and sing of our urgent need to protect our waters and the land, recognize our coastal fragility, take care of our critters, and learn how we can all be better stewards of our home.
Beyond our region, I seek to honor the water protectors who fought against the Dakota access pipeline at Standing Rock in 2016-17. Watching footage of these events, disturbed by the disrespect for indigenous peoples, land, and precious natural resources, led me to “Singing for Water”, a dramatic portrayal of these events in song. It serves as a reminder that art reflects conflict and brings people together to fight against injustice.
I am grateful to the organizations that agreed to this collaboration – I chose them to represent earth, sea, and sky (in an avian way), and I am so happy they said ‘Yes!’.
The Chorale is delighted to premiere “Anthem for Truro”, lyrics and music by Amelia LeClair, Resident Scholar at the Brandeis Women's Studies Research Center, and Founder and Director of founder and director of Cappella Clausura, an ensemble of voices and instruments specializing in music written by women from the eighth century to the present day.
We sing poignant poetry and witty words, in settings from the ethereal, to the harmonically challenging, to delightfully Disney. We hope you enjoy them all! You will also have the chance to sing along, and another to dance along. “
The Chorale is conducted by Artistic Director Danica A. Buckley, accompanied by CCC pianist Cathy Bonnett, and featuring Native Flute artist, Ej Mills Brennan, of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe.
