Join us for an enlightening evening with the acclaimed author & history teacher, Jeffrey Denman, as we delve into the captivating world of John Quincy Adams and his complex relationship with slavery in his latest book, "John Quincy Adams, Reluctant Abolitionist."
In this thought-provoking author talk and book signing, Denman takes us on a journey through the life and times of John Quincy Adams, a Harvard alumnus, diplomat, US President, and influential member of Congress. While Adams never fully embraced the abolitionist cause, his passionate disdain for the arguments of Southern slaveholders propelled him into a central role in one of America's most defining struggles.
John Quincy Adams, Reluctant Abolitionist will be published at the end of September and copies will be available for sale.
Jeffrey A. Denman is co-author of Greene and Cornwallis in the Carolinas: The Pivotal Struggle in the American Revolution, 1780-1781, as well as several magazine and journal articles. Jeff is a graduate of the University of Maine and the University of Connecticut and a retired teacher of American History and World Geography in the Brookline Public Schools in Brookline, Massachusetts. His research focuses primarily on the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries in American history.
