Jade Olson’s hand-built ceramic works explore what it means to be human,
fallible, and damaged, yet simultaneously victorious, and even heroic. With her cast of robots, aliens, and other motley characters, she aims to create a space where superheroes pratfall, robots leer and grin, and imaginary creatures invite the viewer to step inside their uncanny worlds. Olson’s forms are colorful, painterly, and mysterious, yet ultimately friendly. Subjected to multiple firings, glazes bubble, melt, crack, and spill over the forms, signaling both vibrancy
and vulnerability. Olson also sometimes incorporates simple electronics to create interactive experiences
