This intermediate workshop is all about exploring modern calligraphy styles. Inspired by Molly Suber Thorpe's new book, Mastering Modern Calligraphy, the targeted lesson plan will push you to experiment in ways you never have before. Emphasis will be placed on playing with letterforms (upper and lowercase), mastering flourished layout designs, and creating your very own modern calligraphy style.


The exercises will push you out of your “calligraphy comfort zone” to break old habits you dislike and lay the foundation for new and improved ones. You will walk away with the tools you need for highly effective practice, including how to review your own work with an unbiased, trained eye.


Whether you've taught yourself or learned from a teacher, if you can write with a pointed calligraphy pen, then this class is right for you! It doesn’t matter if your experience is extensive, or whether it’s in modern or traditional styles. (If you've ever taken one of my beginner workshops then you definitely qualify.) Students with a basis in Copperplate might find this class extremely useful for learning about breaking rules with intention, and merging traditional with modern.


All the supplies you'll need for the workshop, including a beautifully-packaged supply kit and letter guide booklet, are included in the ticket price.
