A "true" improvised weapon is something that in the moment, without any forethought, you recognize as something that can be used in an offensive and/or defensive manner. This requires a certain amount of creative thinking, and is a very different skill to understanding how everyday objects, that have already been identified as useful in a combat setting, can be used to increase your survival chances e.g. if you have been taught how a chair can be used in a fight, you have not learnt "improvisation" you have been taught how to fight with a chair, etc. To be able to fully exploit objects in your environment to your own advantage, you need both skills, and it is the intention of this 90-minute seminar to train these two abilities i.e. how to recognize different types of objects that can be used in a conflict, along with how specific objects – such as those that you may have on your person e.g. pens, mobile phones, keys, flashlights, etc. can be utilized for combat purposes.
Time will also be given to cover some of the legal considerations that need to be made when using improvised weapons; as although they can be useful in giving you an edge or advantage in a fight, the fact that you have such an advantage, may open you up to certain post-conflict legal inquiries, that could result in both criminal charges and civil suits. Understanding how things may change legally, when you use and/or fashion an improvised weapon is an important component of self-defense.
This seminar is free to members of the school, but is also open to members of the public at a cost of $99 (attendees must be 18 years or older). If you are interested in attending, please use the link below to be taken to the booking and payment form:
