"We are talking now of summer evenings..."
As sunny days flourish, let's commemorate our summers together. The Horizon Ensemble performs music by friends and music of history. Join us this Sunday, August 11 at 3:00 PM in the Church of the Covenant for six orchestral memories of summertime!
This concert will include two premieres: Liang Si by Yangfan Xu, a dancelike evocation of the harvest, and A Moment of Everything by Jackson Carter, celebrating the joys of college days. We'll also play Maurice Ravel's stately, songful Pavane for a Dead Princess; Gabriela Lena Frank's rhythmic, Peruvian-influenced Elegía Andina, and Florence Price's mysterious The Oak. We finish with Samuel Barber's nostalgic portrait Knoxville: Summer of 1915, featuring soprano Julia Pottinger. Along the way, we will also include local Boston-area poets sharing some of their work to match the music!
This is a pay-what-you-can concert, with a suggested donation of $20. We will collect donations in person at the concert, or you can find us on Venmo at @HorizonEnsemble.
This event is wheelchair accessible. No bright or flashing lights are allowed at this event. Please register with your name and e-mail address. If you can't make it in person, there will be a YouTube livestream.
