As the weather warms, we celebrate music from composers' own springtimes: their first forays into the orchestral world. The Horizon Ensemble performs music by friends alongside music of history. Come join us this Saturday, April 27 at the Church of the Covenant for some lively orchestral music!
We'll be premiering a Piano Concerto by our friend Ryan Johnston, featuring pianist Andrew Cannestra. With soulful tunes and soaring melodies, this new concerto foretells a bright future for orchestral writing. The second half of our program is the Gaelic Symphony by Boston's own Amy Beach, the first major symphony by an American woman! The name comes from Amy Beach's inspiration: she infused her symphony with the flowing, sprightly songs of northern Europe.
This is a pay-what-you-can concert, with a suggested donation of $20. We will collect donations in person at the concert, or you can find us on Venmo at @HorizonEnsemble.
This event is wheelchair accessible. No bright or flashing lights are allowed at this event. Please register with your name and e-mail address on Eventbrite. If you can't make it in person, there will be a YouTube livestream.
