What a time it’s been! The end of the year arrives, and we arrive safely through all the trials and tribulations 2022 has brought us. Let’s enjoy a relaxing evening with some lovely pieces, which all live within the sunny world of C major.
We open with Status Quo, a brass ensemble piece written by our friend Brian Daniel Ross, which takes us from a stark martial procession into a warm chorale. From here we find ourselves in the Idyll by the British composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, a tender, loving air, soothing and lounging. After this is the energetic Overture in C Major by Fanny Hensel (née Mendelssohn) — the composer’s only foray into purely symphonic music, full of bold and striking musical choices and events. We finish with Franz Schubert’s cheerful Symphony No. 6, nicknamed the “Little C Major,” which lends its name to our concert!
Admission is free, with a suggested donation of $20. Masks are required in the Church of the Covenant. Please register on Eventbrite with your name and e-mail address here. There will also be a YouTube livestream.
