Enjoy the sweet reward of spinning honey comb as we reach the end of beekeeping season. Together Bill Perkins and the Boston Area Beekeepers Association will explain how the bees make honey, where and how it is stored in the hive, and then, together, we will uncap the honeycomb, extract the honey in a hand-crank spinner, and enjoy some ‘;liquid gold' courtesy of BABA's bees at the Boston Nature Center. Enjoy a small take home jar of BNC honey as well!
If weather permits, a beekeeper will lead a walk to the beehives at the Nature Center's apiary, and open a hive for a closer look inside. Protective bee suits will be provided if you would like to visit the apiary.
Teacher Naturalist Kalimah Mustafa-Widberg will lead a walk to observe other native bee species, and learn about their importance in the ecosystem.
