With over 930 burial markers and 85 tombs, Hancock Cemetery is considered one of New England’s nicest old burial grounds. The quality, variety and condition of the cemetery’s slate and granite monuments make it both a remarkable collection of memorial design and craftsmanship, and an invaluable cultural and historic archive of the first 200 years of European settlement in Quincy. Yet, the cemetery isn’t just a relic of the past, it is also an important greenspace and tourism destination in the heart of Quincy Center.
Join Bob Damon, the City of Quincy’s Director of Historic and Heritage Resources, for a 90-minute interactive journey from death’s head masks to climate resilience in Quincy’s historic Hancock Cemetery.
No registration is required for this Library event.
