Come and hike the famous "Fliberty", Flume and Liberty. We will be doing an out-and-back going up Osseo Trail to Mount Flume. From Flume we'll go over to Mount Liberty by way of Fraconia Ridge Trail, then back the way we came. Both Flume and Liberty have spectacular views from their craggy summits. You can even see into the Pemigawasett forest and some of the other peaks of the famous Pemi Loop.
It's a total distance of 12 miles and 4000 feet of elevation gain. If we don't maintain a good pace, we can skip Liberty and do just Flume for a distance of 10 miles and 3000 feet of elevation gain. We can decide whether to do both Flume and Liberty or just Flume once we have a team and gather preferences of the team.
This hike is rated difficult because of the length and elevation gain. The first 1.5 miles of the hike on the Lincoln Woods trail is all flat and easy. Once we are on the Osseo trail. there is elevation gain which is also gradual for the most part except for the last mile to the summit that has steeper sections as well as many (158?) wooden stairs.

Expectations
I expect you to have previous winter hiking experience in the Whites. This is a long hike, so a regular exercise routine is key. That being said, we will likely end in the dark so a headlamp is necessary.
We will be hiking at a moderate pace of around 1.5 miles per hour. So, if you're looking to go as fast as possible or have difficulty staying together as a group, I do not recommend this hike for you.
Additional expectations
1) I am not a guide and this is not a service - I expect you to be fully prepared with the gear listed below and the mindset that you could get yourself out of trouble if needed.
2) We stick together - this is a group event, so if you feel that you are not flexible in working as a team, this will not be a good hike for you.
3) Parking is limited, so non-carpoolers will be limited.
All listed gear is required. I will be screening everyone going on this hike.
1) Waterproof winter hiking boots (no trail runners or summer hiking boots).
2) Microspikes; Absolutely no tiny studs or anything that does not have multiple sharp pointed edges.
3) Waterproof and windproof shells for core and pants
4) Layered clothing system; no cotton
5) Insulated jacket (puffy - down or synthetic)
6) Winter Hat
7) Winter Gloves
8) Headlamp with extra batteries or another headlamp (days are much shorter)
9) 2-3 liters of water
10) Snacks and lunch ~2000 calories.
11) Extra clothing to change into after
12) Leg gaiters
13) Copy of the trail map: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/map/map-march-23-2022-6-51-pm-5551836?u=i
Highly recommended
1) Hiking poles (very helpful during descent on snowy / icy trails)
2) Hand and toe warmers
Expectations
Please write your experience once you join if your Ridj-it profile does not have an extensive history.
Hiking 4000 footers in the winter is not an easy task. This particular hike is long and has a considerable elevation gain.
