In our opinion, Red Rock Conservation Area is the best location near Boston for your first time climbing outside, but it also has some challenges for more experienced climbers. This area features many cracks that lend themselves well to laybacking and footjams as well as some climbs that are great introductions to outdoor slab climbing. The wall is fairly tall, with many routes getting up to 60 ft in length. Located about 40 min North-East of Boston in West Gloucester, from the top of the wall you can even get some views of the ocean on a clear day. If you are not driving to Red Rock, you can access it via the commuter rail on the T. The trailhead is located about a mile away from the ‘West Gloucester’ stop along the ‘Newburyport/Rockport’ line.
Events are a great way to try out outdoor climbing for a bargain. Running 3 hours long, these group events have public slots that anyone can sign up for. Join others in groups of up to 8 climbers as we explore local Boston climbing walls and make some awesome memories. All gear is provided, and the ropes will be rigged by our amazing team of instructors.
