Dj Bad Lieutenant


Matt Ward has been dj’ing underground parties from Brooklyn to Boston for nearly a decade, most recently under the moniker of Bad Lieutenant (a reference to the 1992 Abel Ferrara film starring Harvey Keitel). In addition to dusty basements and sun-drenched roofdecks, Matt has played at Brass Union in Somerville, Milky Way in JP, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum downtown, and Grassfed Disco at Zuzu.


Dance music’s subversive history and its current underground culture serve as a catalyst for Matt’s dj handle and style. Drawing influence from Dj Harvey, Idjut Boys, and Rub & Tug, Bad Lieutenant recognizes that the most transcendent dance floor experiences stem from variation and tension, from freedom of expression for all, and a deep connection between the dj and dancer. Whether warming up the dance floor or closing out the night, expect a surreal, yet groovy soundscape including balearic, cosmic, nu disco, dub/ reggae, electro, funk, soul, house, and disco. But writing about music is like dancing about architecture. Ask Bad Lieutenant himself, he'd probably tell you to get back out on the floor and keep dancing.
