Tenor Zachary Wilder is a rising star of the Baroque music universe, with countless performances of early operas, oratorios, and cantatas in Europe, the USA, and Japan. He joins Les Bostonades, an expert period-instrument ensemble directed by Akiko Sato, for dramatic music of the two great French masters of the early 18th century: “Amours contrariées — Tragic Loves: Cantatas of Clérambault & Rameau.” Included are Pirame et Tisbé (Pyramus and Thisbe), the love story told by Ovid on which Shakespeare based Romeo and Juliet, and Orphée (Orpheus), in which the noble hero descends into the Underworld and charms Pluto himself to bring back his beloved. There are also solo and ensemble pieces on the program. This is music of the highest quality, utterly enchanting, performed by Boston's best. Reception follows. Tickets at the door (cash or check): $30 / $25 seniors / students free.
