GISB Speaker Series: Social Skills or Social Media? Helping Kids Adjust Socially in a Digital World

Even prior to the pandemic, parents expressed heightened concerns about screen usage, anxiety, and social problems such as bullying and conflicts. The past three years have only intensified some of these challenges. This presentation aims to explore the emotional and social well-being of children in light of their engagement with screens, gaming, and social media.

The talk will provide a summary of relevant research and present practical approaches to enhance family life, fostering emotional resilience, promoting healthy social skills and friendships, and encouraging sensible screen and social media habits in children. The discussion will focus on moving forward, offering insights into how parents can be most effective in guiding their children towards a balanced and healthy relationship with screens and social interactions.
