Be sure to join the Norman B. Leventhal Map and Education Center’s Curator of Maps and Director of Geographic Scholarship Garrett Dash Nelson for a virtual discussion with guest Dr. Brian Jefferson, Ph.D. on "Geographic Information Systems and the War on Crime and Drugs." Dr. Jefferson is an Associate Professor of Geography at the University of Illinois whose work explores capitalism, digital technology, predictive policing, and the racial consequences of GIS usage. This discussion is part of Leventhal’s online conversation series “Angles on Bending Lines: How Data Can Warp Our World” that centers on the biases and distortions that lurk within data sets and are reflected in the results and policies they often inform.
This event is free to the public and streamed live on
Leventhal’s YouTube and Facebook channels. Registration and more information are available here.
