Visit the Golden Ball Tavern Museum at 662 Boston Post Road in Weston, Massachusetts and step back in time - 250 years in time! This historic house and tavern was built by Isaac Jones in 1768 and was the scene of several events leading up to the Revolutionary War and home to the six generations of the same family for over 200 years. Our preservation style shows changes through time and our collection is 90% Jones family furnishings, artifacts and more. We have access to a rich collection of primary sources such as journals, letters and ledgers kept by the family to tell the stories of the Jones family through the ages.
All tours are guided by our experienced docents who share the history of the house and its stories through time – did you know there was a Weston Tea Party? And that the spies who visited the Tavern - 3 nights in all - left a journal detailing their experiences and information to report back to General Gage? And why did Paul Revere malign the Jones family by labeling them “Tories” after stopping at the Tavern for breakfast with his men in 1777? Ample time is allowed for questions, fun and further discussion.
Our newest exhibit "Spies Among Us" is now open to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the visit of General Gage's spies. A sculpture of a quill pen and inkwell, commissioned by the museum with the support of the Massachusetts Cultural Council, is also on display on the front lawn as part of that commemoration. "Mightier Than The Sword" by Paul Angiolillo speaks of the power of the written word and is linked to our spy story and the journal kept by the spies, and the newspaper exchanges that detail the days leading up to and after the Weston Tea Party and more.
An experience for all ages, see what it was like to live in colonial times at this New England Treasure.
The Golden Ball Tavern Museum is on the National Register of Historic Places and is completely self-supporting.
