Step into the wild, where the illusion of human dominance crumbles in what artist Hugh Hayden calls “the forest of changing shapes.” Inspired by Hayden’s evocative work, the Forest of Changing Shapes Film Series dares you to experience nature’s defiance through the eerie, unsettling lens of horror. This spine-chilling four-part series—presented by the Rose Art Museum and curated by Brandeis Professor Brandon Callendar—unmasks nature’s relentless, ever-shifting resistance, forcing us to confront the fragile, often uneasy bond between humanity and the untamed world.
The 1984 film The Enchanted, directed by Carter Lord, is set in a dark and supernatural landscape. It weaves a hypnotic atmosphere of unease as a young rancher returns to his Florida homestead, only to be drawn into a haunting romance with a mysterious woman who emerges from the wilderness.
