Nigeria’s Femi Kuti is the heart and soul of modern Afrobeat. Femi’s legendary father, Fela Aníkúlápó Kuti, created the style – an irresistible blend of traditional Nigerian drum patterns with the smooth groove of highlife, American soul, funk, and R&B. Fela’s Afrobeat inspired generations of musicians around the world to use music as a weapon to fight for justice and freedom. Femi and his band, Positive Force, continue to push the movement forward, expanding the music’s vocabulary while maintaining its traditional roots and fervent political messages. Boston's own Kotoko Brass will open.
Presented in association with Bowery Presents.
