A critic for the New York Times referred to Nancy Ellen Craig (1927-2015) as the best portrait artist in America since John Singer Sargent.
Throughout her career, Craig took numerous honors in major art exhibitions in Europe and the United States. Now, the Whistler House Museum of Art is proud to showcase her grand artistic achievements in portraiture.
See Craig's elegant and intimate portraits of the social, political, and intellectual elites of her time, from Lady Jean Campbell and Anjelica Huston to Frank Lloyd Wright. Her works can be found in the Metropolitan Museum, NY; Baltimore Museum, MD; New Britain Art Institute, CT; John Ringling Museum, FL; and Provincetown Art Association Museum, MA.
This exhibition runs from June 29 – August 6, 2016. Museum hours are Wed-Sat 11am to 4pm. A reception will be held on Saturday July 9 from 2-4pm. Admission to the Parker Gallery to see this exhibition is free, however we charge admission to tour the historic home and museum.
