Each week, A Celtic Sojourn explores traditional and contemporary music from around the Celtic world, connecting emerging artists to their deep music roots. On Saturday, June 9 a special broadcast of A Celtic Sojourn will take part in the internationally organized FairPlé Day, originated by famed Irish folk singer Karan Casey. FairPlé, aims to achieve gender balance in the production, performance, promotion, and development of Irish traditional and folk music—often a male-dominated art form. FairPlé Day is a series of events around the world on June 9 aiming to draw awareness to the gender imbalance in traditional Irish music. A Celtic Sojourn host Brian O’Donovan will speak with Casey about the FairPlé movement during the three-hour broadcast, which will feature several high-profile female Irish folk artists. In addition, Boston-based folk musicians Ted Davis and Tina Lech will bring their hour-long jam session to the program from 4 to 5 pm along with some of New England's best players. Husband and wife duo Matt and Shannon Heaton will also perform traditional Irish music live on the program as well.
